From our amazing librarian, Mrs. Romero:

One of the most important indicators of success in our society today is the ability to read and interpret what one reads, whether it is a ballot, a news article, or memos at work. The state standards require high school students to not only understand what they read, but to also make connections to other works of literature, self, and world, extending the ideas that are presented in the story, and evaluating the author. This assignment is designed to help you work toward mastering those standards. You are responsible for filling out a reading log each week with your reflections on your reading. You may read fiction or nonfiction. Please note, I have given you many questions to choose from in completing your reflections. Even if you are absent, you are responsible for completing it and turning it in. Reading logs will need to be turned in by the beginning of class on Monday (or the first day of the week) to receive full credit. Parent signature required. Reflections required. NO SUMMARIES. You should be thinking about (reflecting) on your reading, not just summarizing the work of the author. |
