This is my third year with Las Cruces Public Schools. I taught for many years in EPISD, where I taught Texas history, dual language social studies, English/Language Arts, Humanities, and New Tech English.
I am a native of Texas, but I lived in Oklahoma, Germany, Virginia, South Carolina and Texas and have lived in New Mexico for 28 years. My father was in the Army for almost 25 years, so there were times we moved a lot. In fact, I went to three schools just in sixth grade. So for those of you that have moved to the region due to being military, I know exactly how you feel. My interests include reading, singing, music, cooking, movies, and animals. I have a son, Jaime, and a daughter, Jade. Therefore parents, as a teacher and a mother, my best advice to you as a parent is to work with your child's teachers to help your son or daughter be responsible and as independent with his or her education as possible. Develop those study habits now!
Educationally, I graduated from Richland Northeast High School in Columbia, SC and attended both Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and UTEP where I earned a BS in Education. My majors were history and English/ minors were vocal music and Spanish.
Each summer I read as much as I can. Some of the books I read are books I have seen students reading in my class. This allows me to know what they enjoy reading. I read over 20 books this summer and look forward to reading whenever I can during the school year. I will be reading right along with your child! Please join me in making this the year you, too, read as a family (if you are not already). I continue to learn and incorporate that knowledge into my classroom.
I bring a variety of experience to the classroom and I will make every attempt to make your child's experience as real and relevant as possible.
Sincerely,
Jerriann Garcia
